best way to build a video gallery
|
|
|
| I would like to build a video gallery. But, I'm not sure what's the best way
to do that. I'm wondering what is the smallest format to use? mpeg? And
should I build the entire thing in Flash, or should I import the different
videos into Dreamweaver? What will be easiest for people to view? How can I
get small file size with decent quality? I need some help, and would be
grateful for any help.
Thanks :)

| Hi,
I'm actually adding a video gallery to my new site, only got one vid up at the
moment but this is what i've done. I've kept all the videos seperate from the
site so that the loading time of the time doesnt suffer. Then using a frame
from the video i've created a thumbnail that will open the video in a new popup
window. The format i've chosen to use is QuickTime. AVI's create rather large
files so arent too good for streaming video content. I'm not sure about mpeg's.
I cant render out straight to mpeg with AFter Effects (software i used to make
the batman movie) without a plugin.
Take a look at my site and check the video out, the quality is OK, it could be
better but that would mean a file sixe os over 200kb.
Hope i've helped,
Regards,
Viru.

| Very cool site. :) Thanks for sharing. I especially love the water video and
the picture of the girl is beautiful too. :) Good work.
So, what extension do you use for the QuickTime files? I don't have After
Effects? Running into issues trying to convert my video files. I'm on a Mac
and all the free converters seems to be for PC only. :(
The video gallery I'm building is for my daughter. :) We have family in the
Bahamas, and we try to include them in this beautiful experience via the
internet. You can check out her site . . .

So, I take it you build the entire site in Flash. I haven't tackled that yet.
Still building pieces in flash, then using Dreamweaver to bring it all
together. Guess I need to take the leap. :)
Thanks.

| Hey,
The movie clips were rendered into .mov that extension is a QuickTime Movie. I
decided i wanted to have the videos show in my site instead of in a pop up.
I've implemented the change, so take another look.
What process or you going through to create your movies?
Viru.

|
| What process? Well, I haven't gotten that far. I know it will be a lot of
work and pretty time consuming, so I thought I'd do some research first to
figure out the best way to tackle this project. I'm not into wasting time.
You know?
That said, any suggestions?
| |
|
| I had a look at the site, cute baby : )
Going by what i've seen i'd suggest creating .mov files that you open in popup
windows by pressing a thumbnail on the main site. Theres no real need to have
the files embedded into the current site. Its what i would do.
About the software to use, i dont use a MAC so i cant suggest any free
software, sorry.

Viru.

| to K02n, maybe I am veering off topic but how did you do that stretchy-box trick on your site? Where new pages change size depending on the content. that was coool....
obviously i am a newbie..
| |
|
| Hey, thanks.
Well cos your a newbie i need to ask, do you know what symbols are? the
difference's between them? and the things you can do to them?
The content boxes are all movie clips and their width and height properties
are changed by using an onEnterFrame function.
Read up on onEnterFrame, easing, functions. That should get you started. Do a
search for easing boxes and you should find a simple piece of code that will
let you resize boxes.
Regards,
Viru.

|
| Forgot to mention, the changing of the colour is also linked with the resizing
because it all needs to be timed, i.e the colour changes to its final colour
when the content box resizes to its final size.
