Author A Clock With Flash

Ok I got you to start reading this, that's one objective accomplished,
objective two is to get someone to read this who can help me,
(no offense meant to those who can't)

I had an Idea, and like many other ideas I had no idea how to do it, or get
the info on how to do it.

Here's my Idea, I am going to make a clock in flash, Digital Analogue
doesn't matter, but since there's plenty of tutorials for those on the net,
that's not my problem, my problem is the other half of the project. Not only
do I want a clock in my Movie to display the Users time, but I want a clock
NEXT to that 1, displaying MY time.

Hope that's not impossible.

Let me know if it is/isn't or even if you you, yourself aren't sure, the
more replies I get means the more possible help I get.
(plus I can tell that this post was even read, so I won't have to re-post
it. A plus for you)

Thanks

Well since the clock already works for users you have a handle on the
actionscript date class it would appear.

I do not think you can just show a user the time on your cpu/server
what-have-you.

You must build an array based on timezones and then you can use this array to
display the time in any timezone to any user anywhere. That way, if the movie
detects it is 7pm on your viewer's cpu you can just tell the actionscript-built
clock for YOUR TIME to add substarct hours accordingly to display your time in
the second clock.

You will need to research timezones and code some functions to do the math for
any clocks you may encounter.

You should put the time checking in a function so that you only have to code
it once for each time zone.

You should see if you can still get a peek at a book by New Rider called
"Flash MX Magic" ---- NOT "flash mx 2004 magic" ---- this book has a great
chapter where the author of the chapter does this sort of thing with a world
map.

http://newriders.com -- you can download the completed flas there it is
chapter 4 that you want

Or try hitting a bookstore for it. Guartanteed it has all you need as this is
a little involved and more than a forums format should be used for.
