Dynamic Text Problem
|

| Greetings,
Is there a trick to using dynamic text in a movie that is then loaded into
another movie? I have a SWF with a dynamic text field that appears fine when it
is viewed by itself, but then when it gets loaded into the main movie the text
disapears. When I move the cursor over where the text should be it changes to
the text selection i-bar, but there is nothing there. I have tried exported
font outlines, but it made no difference (besides, the font is Verdana so most
machines should have it). Does it have something to do with the level in which
everything is loaded? I tried adjusting the level of the dynamic text field but
that didn't accomplish anything. Any help would be very much appreciated.

| My feel is that there is a path problem here. Suppose you set text in
textfield using myField.text = _root.varName. At the moment you load the swf
into another swf, _root will reference the timeline of the swf you load
into. If this doesn't solve it, elaborate on how you've set things up with
regard to getting the text into the textfield.

| Thanks for your help, but I am afraid I don't quite understand what you mean (I
am very new at this). I have a text box and have selected "Dynamic Text", and
set the correct variable that is used in my .txt file in the property
inspector. Then in the first frame of the movie I have added the script:
loadVariablesNum("main_text.txt", 0);
This causes the text to display just fine when I view the SWF by itself, but
when the SWF is loaded into another movie it dosen't show up. I am loading the
movie with the text into level 10 in the main movie, so I tried changed the
script so that the text loaded into level 11, but that didn't do anything,

| Please, if anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it. I have searched all over the place and I cannot find a solution to my problem that works or makes since. Thanks!

| What happens if you load the variables into the same level as in which you
load the movie?

| Yes! Thank you, that seems to work. I feel so stupid since the solution was so simple, but learning all this can be confusing. Thanks again.

| ;-) By the way; since Flash MX I found the LoadVars object much more
convienient for loading external data. I think you'll find it worthwhile
investing some time in that. If you're interested:

And the as-dictionary of course
