| So ... what do you guys think? We just built and launched the new http://www.nsync.com website... as the lead flash developer on it, I am extremely happy with the results, it being a 90% flash site... how about some feedback folks... we worked our butts o
ff on this one, and wouldn't mind some crits....
thanks all,

| 10 out of 10 :)
Not my cup of tea as far as the music is concerned, but the site is a definite candidate for a site of the day ;)
while (!asleep) { code(); }

| Great assembly and design flow. Also, very good load times..and the
navigation - thanks for the interesting use of a common interface. Good job!
There's feedback, nonetheless.

| Peter Blumenthal 2003-11-27, 7:21 pm |
| well done. great site. shame about the band :)
one crit - i didn't look through the *whole* site, so this may happen
elsewhere, but i noticed it in the "fan's pictures" type section: if you
look at one image, then click on another it's quite easy for the popup to be
hidden behind the main window. You might want to look at setting the focus
back to the popup. A good working example of this can be seen here:
http://www.radiotimes.beeb.com if you look at "today's tv", click on a
program, then click another.
Other than that though, well done :)

| How did you do the effect with the subway, I work for a transportation broker, and would like to do something similar with a flatbed truck?
| |
| lithyem webforumsuser@macromedia.com 2003-11-27, 7:23 pm |
| The effect with the subway was simply done with photoshop and some tweening. No magic or trickery involved... a blurred image of the train was dupped and tweened across the screen a few times, then faded out, revealing the non-blurry train image. The girl
walking across the screen was created from still photos, where she (Jill) was separated from the background, and then masked and tweened. The animations were simply a result of tons of time and an unbelievable attention to detail... mainly they are the f
ruits of labor of my project manager, Chris. Many all-nighters are the reason all of these scenes are as "alive" as they are...

| I dont understand... there is a white page before YOUR preloader in that URL or my preloader on NSYNC.com? Either case, I'm assuming that you are on a mac?

| What I think it is, is the background color of the movie, before ANYTHING has been loaded on top of it. Change your background color to a contrasting color to test this idea. Your only option is to make the movie a background color that you can live with
before any art has been downloaded. In my nsync.com case, i chose a brownish green, that is predominant on the site.
In any case, flash is a streaming medium... in that it displays what it can, and untill at least a background graphic has been loaded, you will only see the background color.

| The spinning news thing... the rollover of the newspaper? That was just done in photoshop with a radial blur and some creative tweening... wish there were some trickery going on... but nope, just p-shop.

| How did you create the spinning news thing?

| MeadowRyan webforumsuser@macromedia.com 2003-11-27, 7:26 pm |
| how did you get it to spin?
| |
| lithyem webforumsuser@macromedia.com 2003-11-27, 7:26 pm |
| Well... it's a tween. In the tween properties palette, there is an option for rotation. You can specify, clockwise, counter-clockwise, auto, or none. I chose clockwise, set the number of rotations to hmmm maybe 2 or so, and tweened the radial blurred imag
e. At the end of the rotation tween, I do another tween to fade it out in a few frames... and simultaneously fade the non-blurred image in, so that the transition is smooth. It's really a matter if playing with the tween settings and finding what works ,
and when. Hope that was a help, I've never had to explain tweening before.. hehe.

| Yes, I'm on a mac, but it seem like Peter saw the white screen before the preloader also. I'm assuming you didn't see a white screen? This is interesting, because I did have the background color in Flash to match the background color in Dreamweaver for
the same reasons you stated, but I still have that white screen. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

| I see that effect as well on many flash sites. I will chalk it up to flash being barely useable on a mac. Even on OSX, flash player and flash authoring environment it shameful. I'ts a wonder to me that apple can develop a fantastic operating system based
on the most stable technology you can ask for (unix) and mcrmdia cannot build a flash player that runs a over 2 frames per second on my dual-1000mhz g4. Go figure, my Packard Bell PII @ 80mhz will smoke my G4 when it comes to flash... so nice.
And while i'm ranting... why do you have to sign into this archaic, slow message board everytime you close the browser window. I'm hungry for cookies. cmon macroMeeeDia, cmon.

You might like it better to use your regular newsgroup reader at
forums.macromedia.com (I certainly do)
The web forum is too sluggish and requires log-in.

| How did you create the rollover effects when you go over the ipod picture or the "get insider" access pass?
thanks
| |
| lithyem webforumsuser@macromedia.com 2004-01-26, 12:30 pm |
| It's easier than it looks... it's just done with .pngs and some photoshop effects, (radial blur, etc) ... and a few tweens.. theres really no code trickery goin on in there on this one.. hope that helps.

| I'm a newbie at this, and your work is awesome!! Hope i can be there some day.
I have a question though. On my site http://www.sbcyouth.org, i have a preloader set up. I also want to create a "play", "pause", and "stop" buttons for a sound loop that i want in there as well. I know that to have the "play", "pause", and "stop" butt
ons work properly you have to "linkage" them and export on 1st frame, but if you do that you lose your preloader.
My e-mail is soccerbeanie21@hotmail.com
Just lookin for help
Thanks
