Smooth Text Scrolling: How'd they do this?

| Hello,
Take a look at the text scrolling across and vertically on this site:
http://www.coppola.it/pages/home.html
I'm trying to work out a similar affect--the smooth, even scroll. Mine, by comparison are jerky things and look more like special effects than an even scroll.
Any ideas are appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
--R Benari.
