I have no experience in flash, just an idea I wanted developed so I thought I would ask to see if people thought it was possible before seeking a coder.

I would like a program/website that allows people to design their next tattoo.
Basically a drawing program (online) that would allow users to select from an array of templates and edit them with text/lines/shading and add as much functionality as possible with possibly the ability to start with their own image.

It would be cool if this could be done on a 3d model, ie the user selects male/female and body part which is then zoomed in on to draw the tattoo so that a user may get an actual feel of how it may look.

I dont know the implications/costs of such a project however I would appreciate any advice on whether this is achievable and any pro's cons to my idea.

Hi,

With Flash, the sky is the limit.....It's possible........

The pro's

U can developed a drawing program within flash, but why not have different shapes, ect....and then the user can drap such shapes,ect... into the screen...instead of drawing, just a suggestion....

The con

I really don't know about the 3d, I'm sure there's a third party software out there can help you out on this one, but I've seen some flash movies using 3-d..........

PROS

It's a nice idea to have it all online.

CONS

Flash can't do any raster drawing(pixel art) but you could have user's upload their own images.

Flash can't do any real 3D, but pre-rendered stuff(for visual kicks) you could do.

Flash/ActionScript has drawing tools that would enable your visitors to drawn their designs right there at your site. I would also give them a "library" of pre-defined shapes (some common themes in tattooing, like hearts, barb wire, skulls, etc) to help
get them started. They should also have the option of importing (uploading) their own artwork from an external file into your site. You'll either need a way of saving the designs for future recall, or have them download (save) the artwork on their local
drive. I'd also provide a Print option so they can print the design right from your site, in case they don't have access to a local drive (public libraries). They could then also take this printout to a tattoo shop.

I wouldn't try to do the 3D visiualization because Flash isn't well-suited for that and it's not really necessary for accomplishing the artwork design. (The visitors should be able to visualize the 3D in their mind, and then they've also got the printout
that they can hold against themself to get an idea of the effect.)

Be sure to provide a full array of colors, drawing tools, shading options, etc. They shouldn't be limited to what they can draw on their skin simply because they're doing it at your site rather than on paper. If people can draw what they want, or the in
terface it too hard to use, I suspect not many people will be using it.

If you really want the 3d mapping option (and i think it's anice idea), you
could have a look at using Shockwave instead of Flash. Shockwave is a web
based format created by another Macromedia product, Director. Director is a
lot more heavyweight than Flash (sometimes referred to as Flash's big
brother) and has built in 3D programing language and renderer.

Disadvantages of using Shockwave over Flash are:
Plugin not as widespread
Plugin much larger
Will probably be more expensive to have developed.

Anyway, worth knowing about i think.
