Author Works in Player, NOT in Browser?!?!?!?

I've been running into this problem left and right! I'm working with Flash MX and I'm trying to load an external flash movie ".swf" file into a movie clip symbol on my current movie. I've studied the tutorials from FlashKit.com and am using the actionsc
ript they suggested, but it's not working in the browser! It works in the Player though.

The movie clip's instance name is called "holder" and when the player gets to a certain frame, the action tells it to load an .swf file into the mc "holder" on the screen. Why does this work in my player but not in my browser?

Can anybody help?

Probably path problem. Paths to external files have to start from the
directory that has the HTML page the swf is embedded in; it should not start
from the directory that holds the swf.

So I still have not found a solution.

I'm using an HTML menu with which every button loads a new flash movie below. The flash movies have their own buttons which load dynamic text into themselves. Could the problem be somewhere in there?

anybody?

Did you check the paths? Or are all files (html, swf and txt) in the same
directory?

All the paths are correct. The Flash Player can play the movie correctly. But when it is loaded into the html file, the browser will not play it. I put a javascript test in there that displays an alert if it can't load the txt file and that alert pops
up on Internet Explorer.

So the player can find the txt file, but the browser cannot? I have the txt files in a folder called "text", the flash files in a folder called "flash" and all the html files reside with these two folders on the root directory. What should the path look
like for this set up? Should I set it up differently?

My paths from the flash file look like this: ../text/profile.txt

should my path be something different because this is a flash file embedded into an html file?

Thanks!!!!

If the structure is

FOLDER : text
FOLDER: flash
FILE: html (embedding an swf from 'flash' directory that calls the textfile)

Then the path to retrieve the textfile should be: text/profile.txt (so
without the ../) Like I said; starting from the HTML-file.

yeah, I looked at you .FLA and the last post was right on. get rid of the ../ in your path and it'll work fine. :)

Thanks John,

Your proposed solution is very interesting and makes sense! I'll try it tonight and let you know what happens!

Thanks again.
