testing ASP pages with Windows Front Page
|
|
|
| Hi,
I have FrontPage 2003 on my XP laptop.
I need to test some web pages with *.asp codes which worked perfectly well
with my old Win95 computer in the past. Of course I had to install Personal
Web Server to it in order to do the job.
The help files of FP, gives the clue that it has the facilities to behave
like a server and test interactive web pages.
But I haven't seen the use of ASP pages with it. I do not wish to install a
server on my XP just to test ASP pages.
Is there a way around please?. Please can you guide me to overcome this
problem?
Thanks in advance

| You must be running Windows XP Pro with IIS and the FP extensions installed.
You must have a web server installed in order to view any server-side scripting, such as ASP,
ASP.net, PHP, etc.

| To test ASP pages you must use a web server. Either install IIS on
Windows XP Pro (XP Home does not support any Microsoft web server), or
publish the site to a server that supports ASP.

| Is there no hope for the millions who run XP Home? At the
time I made my decision to migrate to XP, there was no
justification for XP Pro. Didn't realize that I might want to
develop a web site later. Now that I'm running an XP Home
system with 800K files (two discs), I shudder to think of
migrating to XP Pro and having to start all over again..spending
days reinstalling software/files. It's not worth the effort/expense.
I can't find an equivalent IIs package on the web.

| There is not equivalent IIS package available for Windows XP Home, if you want to run ASP and have
the FP extensions.
