Author Editable Regions help!!

I made a site a few months back for the company i work for.

www.smc-comms.com

They now want the navigation changed. At the moment if i want to change something in the menu (left hand side of page), i have to change it in all 85 pages of the website to keep the menus the same on each page.

I'd like to have the menu as an editable region, so if i change it on one file, then it will update on all 85 pages.

But if i am correct it will be hard as i have already made the full website, so therefore cannot create a template then build all the pages from that one template.

Can i just open each page and create an editable region with the new navigation in which will link to one file.

I have looked everywhere and cant seem to find any help/guides and the DW help seems to be no good either.

Any help is appreciated

mark.

Looks like you are going to have to change every page anyways to put in a generic editible navigation area. I would use an iframe.

Do you know Javascript or iframes?

Iframes is really easy because you can load an html page within an html page.... really handy for navigation changes.

Javascript could be used too... but requires a little more know how....

ive had little experience with javascript, i have heard of iframes before.

are they fully compatable cross browser?

I dont mind going through all the pages to add the iframe.. so long as i dont have to do it again lol!!

iframes are not compatable with older browsers,

i dont think its safe to use an iframe, as some users with older browsers wont be able to view them.

And since the iframe will be holding the most important aspect of the website i feel it wouldnt be suitable.

<-- IMHO, if you initially created this pages based on a template, that will be a whole lot easier because all you need to do is to modify the main template and all the child pages will automatically be updated. :)

here's a technote that may guide you on how to use the template properly in dw ;)

hope this helps somehow. =)
