child of template not available to SSI

| This is a strange one: I have a child page of a template with ten editable
regions in ten table cells. I am trying to use SSI to bring that child page
into a div layer on my main webpage. When I try this the SSI is considered a
comment by Dreamweaver.
I took out the editable regions and made my template a straight HTML file and
it includes fine, so it must be the fact that I'm trying to include a child of
a template. But I'd like to learn why this is.
Thanks!

| can you give url address to examples of both so the code can be seen?
SSI is to include snips of html, not entire html documents.
Including a full "page" in another page means the final page will have
multiple body tags and so on.

| I stripped out all excess code so it's not a true HTML page per se. I don't
have it online but the code begins with:
<!-- InstanceBegin template="/Templates/tabletemplate.dwt"
codeOutsideHTMLIsLocked="false" -->
Then it's just a table (2x5) with editable regions in each cell and images and
text in each region.
And then the closing of the template instance: <!-- InstanceEnd -->

| You just cannot do this.
An include containing template markup will not be processed properly either
by DW's template engine, or by its creation of temp files for preview.

I would call that a bug, no?

| No, I'd call it by design, really. There is no provision in DW's UI for
creating a page fragment with Template markup.

It may not be in the UI, but it can be done with the code so it's possible.
It's not that big of a deal?I can remove the template markup?but it might be
something DW can consider supporting in the future.
Thanks!

| Jeremy:
I can't think of a really good use for it to tell you the truth. A
Server-side include would work best either completely inside or completely
outside a template region, not spanning them.
But you can make your suggestion here -
