Author cache missing or damaged, each time I start up
dualravens

Over the last week or so I keep getting this error message each time I start up
Dreamweaver 8:
"The cache will now be re-created because the cache file is damaged or
missing."

Then it takes a few minutes to rebuild the cache. It's more of a bother than
anything right now, as once it does this everything works fine, but I'm
concerned there's something wrong I should catch now before it gets more testy.
I haven't done anything differently recently to cause this, as far as I know.

I updated the other day to 8.01, which didn't help, and I'm using windows xp.

That seemed to do the trick. Thanks so much!

Well, it worked for a day or two at least. I just got the same message again.
Rather than each time I start Dreamweaver, it seems to happen each time I start
Dreamweaver after I've turned on my computer for the day. Turning the computer
off and back on seems to jiggle something out of whack.

So far I've have had only one site doing this, but this may be because that's
my personal site and I tend to have it open last at the end of the day.

Any further help would be most appreciated. It's only a bother now, but I'm
worried there might be something deeper going on and I want to catch it before
it trashes my sites entirely, or somehow comes alive and takes over the
neighborhood.

It continues to happen, and as it's not a small site, rebuilding the cache is a bit of a bother. Any ideas? Some setting wrong?

I just wanted to mention that I am having this same problem. And related to it
seems to be the fact that when I quit Dreamweaver, it won't close. It says the
program is not responding and I have to hit the "End Now" button. Then the next
morning it rebuilds the cache. I also have a large site that takes several
minutes to rebuild. I am going to try the fix that Murray suggested. However, I
may not know right away if it's working because the problem seems to be
sporadic. It doesn't happen every time. I am going to subscribe to this topic
and will let you know if I find a solution.

I couldn't find the file Murray mentioned, presumably because I am using DW MX 2004 instead of DW8.
