Fade-in Effects for Images- questions

| I am putting together a site for a friend. I used dreamweaver once before- a
couple years ago so am very rusty.
http://www.ignitionarch.com/OA1.html
She wants a fade effect when going from image to image on each project.
As you can see I have this setup so there is a separate web page for each of
the project images. Go to a different page & the image changes as well as the
rectangular buttons on the bottom right.
It seems like javascript could be used to achieve a fade effect- my concerns
would be that it doesn't always work in all browsers, and it may not be user
friendly in terms of updating the site in the future- she could probably not
deal with cutting & pasting code to update the site.
On page http://www.ignitionarch.com/OA3.html I tested an animated gif for the
fade effect (well from blurred to sharp in this case)- very inefficient, plus
once the gif is saved to cache if you go back to that page you lose the
animation effect.
I do not know flash- would that be the most efficient way to achive a fade
effect? Would I be creating a swf file for the 'image' (really a fade-in movie)
on each html page, or would it be better to create one swf file that contains
all images for each project as well as the rectangular navigation buttons, so
you would ony be navigating within the flash movie on a single html page, as
opposed to going between 6 pages for 6 images?
Is there anything else I should be looking at?
thanks for any help!

| Flash would be your best bet, I think.
