Author Defining sites....

I recently have come aboard as the lead person in our small company of 15
people to do all the support to help the V.P. market our product. Included in
those responsiblilities is developing a totally new website since our market
has flip flopped.

Developing small sites previously, I have only defined sites once. It works at
home on my DW3. But now at work using DW Ultra Dev 4, I can't seem to get it to
work correctly and insert the images. The program will insert them from My
Pictures on the C: drive but from no other locations. Even if i do it from the
root folder it still comes up as an image gray "bloc".

I've read the books regarding this and the only thing I can figure is that it
is still hooked up to our live website and that is not allowing me to do
something. But, in the manual it says you don't need to list the http until
you're ready. I haven't tried to FTP yet either because I just want to get a
first page up so we can start designing the site.
Can someone offer me advice?

Thanks
RSVP

What is in the Local root folder field of your local site's definition?

It was previously,

Intelpub
wwwroot
web site
americantraditionswebsite
template

That is as close as I can find. I haven't yet found her index.html . I have to
find our stie admin and password list. I have misplaced it.

The root folder and etc. was something to that effect according to the files
on the PC.

After trying to creat my own "new site" in define sites, 3 attempts/using
different locations, i removed all the previous 'define sites'. Before that
backed up all the files on a backup hard drive. Funny thing is, the program
will insert images properly from my pictures but not from any file i define.

Uhhh - huh?

What is in the Local root folder of the local SITE DEFINITION in DW?

Try this.

Find an image on the hard drive. Copy it and paste it into a folder in My
Documents called "TEST".

Now create a new site in DW. Make the local root folder of this new site
point into the TEST folder you just created. Now, being connected to this
local site, create a new basic HTML page, and insert an image. Do you see
the image you put in that folder earlier?

Ok. I did what you said.
It worked.
But, i copied and pasted an image from another area into the same folder, and it did not work.

Another area means what? Outside the root folder for the site? DW wants
all linked files to be within the root folder of the site.

I copied an image from another areas folder on the hard drive from an open
"explore" window, then went into DW and clicked to insert image and when the
box came up, I just "pasted" into that folder which is in the root folder, but
DW did not recognize it.
I created the root folder in My Documents like you said. SO, basically all my
site building will go thru "My Documents"? I wonder, if that will affect the
uploading of pages if I use FTP? (which I've never used).
thanks for all your help.

Let me try again. DW wants all linked files to be within the current site's
root folder (as defined in the site definition).

How could it? No it will not.
