Author CSS looks different in preview--no colors

Hi everyone. I am teaching myself how to use dreamweaver through a book called
"the missing manual" and they have a css tutorial. I went through step by step
on how to create various CSS and in the workspace, everything looks great.
When I save and then preview it in my browser, all CSS which are supposed to
change a fonts color or add background color do not work. Bold works, font
sizes, padding etc work, but font color and background color do not work at
all. I looked at the properties to see if they were being inherited or
something by other CSS, and it doesn't show that it is..it should be previewing
properly. Any ideas as to why the color won't stay when I preview?

Thanks!
Heidi

Perhaps you have a B&W monitor?

Have you correctly specified the color values, e.g.,

color:#345;

(with the leading octothorpe)?
