Author code/design view buttons dont work + runtime error r6025

I purchased DW8 via the Studio 8 upgrade package. It has been working well for
a month or so.

Now whenever I try to toggle between code, split, or design view, it dosent
work. All three appear to "stick" in the down position. Shortly afterwards I
usually get a pop up window message that says:

Title: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Dreamweaver 8\Dreamweaver.exe
R6025
- pure virtual function call

Before this happens, I am also locked out of all the pulldown menus.
It's basically as if Dreamweaver just dosent work anymore.

I have tried:
-downloading the newest patch
-repairing
-uninstalling/reinstalling

This really started after I was doing some work with dreamweaver using its
remote file ftp capabilities.

This is pretty serious.
Any advice on how to get this program running again?

thanks
