Author Rotating images; timeline greyed out when editing pages based on templates

OK, I have two problems. I'm using Dreamweaver MX 7.0.1 on Mac OS X
10.4.5.

First, I'd like to insert a rotating set of images on a page. I
followed directions I found in some old documentation that look like
this:

1) Put an image on the page.
2) Drag the image into the timeline.
3) Select a frame on the image channel and add a keyframe.
4) Select a new image source in the Properties window.
5) Repeat steps 3) and 4).

I tried this, but loading the result into Firefox and Safari give a
single static image, not the rotating ones. What am I doing wrong?

Also, I tried to do the above on a page that is attached to a template,
but the timeline was greyed out. The documentation suggests that this
was a problem in earlier versions of Dreamweaver but should work fine
in Dreamweaver MX. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any help,
-Lotofun
