DW8 folders open by themselves?
|
|
| PilotChris 2006-02-12, 6:41 pm |
| I'm experiencing a bizarre and annoying thing with DW8. I have a folder that
opens no matter which folder in the site you click to expand. This happens to
be a sub-folder in a sub-folder, so if I click ANY other folder at any level in
the site, this one flies open, pushing the actual folder I want either way up
or way down. This folder refuses to stay closed. In fact, it takes TWO clicks
on the "-" to close it. And as soon as I click the "+" on any other folder,
BOOM. It's open again.
This is happening in more than one of my sites.
Anyone else having this issue? :frown;

| Not this specific problem, but the way DW8 chooses to handle
expanding/collapsing folder/subsfolders is driving me crazy.
Especially the bit when you're trying to check in files and DW simply ingores
all files in collapsed folders..

| this is older info about editing the Registry for expanded folder problems-
the folder location will be different for dw8
from an older message- possible help for this--
Found with a google search, if you want more details before getting into the
Registry--
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=...afe=off&q=dr...
er+expanded+registry
Summary of the solution:
It's a registry thing. so do the usual backups
1. Open regedit.
2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Macromedia\Dreamweaver 6\Sites\
*modify as needed for the version of dw you are using
3. Select the site number that you're having problems with (just look in
each one e.g. "-Site3" until you see the site name being mentioned).
4. Careful here...
Locate the values that begin with "Local Expanded Dir" and end with a number
(there should be quite a few of 'em) and delete them.
5. Then open the value "Local Expanded Dirs" and using a 'Decimal' base,
change the value to 0 (zero).

This folder issue doesn't bother me enough to go through this, but it's
always good to know.
Thanks for the info.

| Interesting! DW8 doesn't have a "sites" folder in the registry as you describe,
but I used the registry search function to find the string(s) and
removed/modified the listings it found. Turns out they were from all the old
versions of DW still listed in the registry (but no longer installed on my
system). Guess what? IT FIXED IT!!
Thank you so much. It was driving me crazy, and as anyone I work with will
tell you, that's a mighty short drive. :)

DW8 site info is in:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Macromedia\Common\8\Sites
