extremely slow with mapped network drive on vpn

| Hello,
All our website we are working on are on a Windows SBS 2003 server. This is
used for development and testing, and once their finished, they are uploaded to
the webserver. We access these sites with dreamweaver with a mapped network
drive. No problems at the office like this.
But when working from home with the Microsoft software VPN connection,
Dreamweaver is extremely slow for opening webpages (even as small as 4kb takes
minutes). So slow it's hardly usable.
Any ideas how this can be solved ?
Thanks a lot !

That's a bandwidth issue. DW, annoyingly, constantly scans the files in your
site definition. If those files are being access via the internet, you are
at the mercy of your bandwidth.

Don't work off the shared drives. Copy them over, modify them, then copy
them back.

AFAIK, no.
We had simliar issues back in the day of Apple's network server. It would
constantly scan the server via appletalk and just grind to a halt.
