| I had been working along without problems this afternoon and all of a sudden,
in the middle of editing, DW locked up on me and went to a "not responding"
state. I ended the program with <ctrl> <alt> <del>. Now if I try to open that
file I was working on during the crash, it freezes up all over again. However,
if I open some other file, it doesn't. I have DW on an old computer and even
took the file over there and saved it and they tried again. No luck. I have
tried renaming the file to something else and a number of other things. Can
someone help? This is critical!

| Make a copy of the dead file (just in case someone has a better idea for fixing
it!)
Can you open the file in Notepad?
If not... file is probably beyond repair... time to find your backup tape.
If so... Notice any odd characters (corruption?) delete any rubbish and save.
Retry in DW
good luck

| You can try this simple fix -
Quit DW.
Find this folder -
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Macromedia\Dreamweaver
8\Configuration\SiteCache\<sitename>.dws
(these folders are normally hidden - you may have to use Explorer > Tools >
Folder Options to unhide them)
and delete it.
Restart DW. Works better?

| That did it! Thanks a million!

| I apologize but this DIDN'T fix it. And, I can open it in an editor (I use EditPad) and do not see any odd characters.

| OK, I fixed here. For future reference, when I took into a text editor, I
discovered there were 4 areas where there were about 7 <div align=center> codes
embedded within one another with subsequent </div> codes of the same number. I
deleted all but one in the 4 instances and now it comes into DW without
problems. Thought you'd want to know.

| Can't imagine how that would crash DW, however, but I'm glad you got going
again.
