changing the CSS media type in Dreamweaver 8

| I am thrilled with the new CSS Style Rendering options in Dreamweaver 8.
This is such a time saver for previewing the print version of a page, so we
no longer have to open the page in the browser and look at it in print
preview mode to see how it will look. I haven't started designing pages for
other media forms like handhelds yet, but I still think these options are
great.
My question concerns setting up the pages to utilize this new feature in the
first place. I know that when I add an existing stylesheet to a page, I am
given the option of selecting the media type. That's great in most cases.
But when I create my stylesheet in the first place, I usually do it from
within an HTML page, using the following steps:
1. Create HTML page
2. Select New CSS Rule from the CSS Styles panel
3. Choose selector type, tag, and that I want to define this in a new style
sheet
4. Give the new style sheet a name and location
5. Define the rule for my style
This creates a new rule and a new stylesheet at the same time. But nowhere
in that process am I given the opportunity to define media type. And
Dreamweaver does not define it as anything by default.
So I know that I can go into the code and add: media = "screen", but I'm
wondering if there is a way to do this in the first place. Or if there is a
button somewhere within the interface that will allow me to add, or change
my media type after the fact.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

| Hi Marge,
You're correct that there's no way to specify media type when creating a
new style. Here are the only ways to specify a media type using Design View:
1. Manually create a new style sheet in the Files Panel. Then you can
specify the media type when you Attach Style Sheet. Finally you can
specify the existing style sheet (instead of New) when creating a new style.
2. Use View > Head Content to display elements that are in the head.
Select the <link> or <style> element, then use Modify > Edit Tag... You
can specify a media type in that dialog.
Hope this helps,
Randy

| That's very helpful Randy, thanks. I am teaching a Dreamweaver class, and
although I have no problem going into the code view myself, not all of my
students have an HTML background. I had tried displaying the Head section
before, thinking that there would be something in the Properties panel for
this purpose. I hadn't thought about going into Modify > Edit Tag.
It would be nice if Macromedia/Adobe had made this easier ... or had at
least given us a drop down menu of media types in the Edit Tag dialog box.
But I think this will be easier to teach than modifying it in the Code View.
Thanks again.
