Title and meta tags not showing up after upload
|
|
| msibbel 2006-02-12, 6:37 pm |
| Hi!
I'm having a problem with my title and meta tags showing up on the uploaded
page. When I entered a new title for my index page and new keywords and
description in the metatags they would not show up in the source after I
uploaded the page. Only the old text showed up. The new title didn't even show
up in the title bar. Here is the code:
<head>
<title>MGS Studio - Portfolio</title>
<meta name="scientific illustrator, scientific illustration, illustrator,
illustrations, artist, kunstner, animals, veterinary, veterinary illustrations,
medical illustrations, biology, biological illustrations, chemical
illustraions, painter, horse illustrator, equine, dog illustrations, canine,
medical illustration" content="MGS Studio provides illustrations for all areas
of science. With a scientific background in animal sciences and veterinary
medicine, I can assure detailed accuracy as well as beauty. MGS Studio provides
3D illustrations (3D modeling), animations, and 2D Illustration in any area of
science for example veterinary medicine, human medicine, animal science,
chemistry, biology, genetics, and microbiology. On top of scientific and
medical illustrations I do portraits of people and animals.;">
</head>
Anyone have any idea why this is happening? What am I doing wrong?

Without seeing the page online, it's hard to tell. But - are you using
frames?
| |
|
| I bet he his.
In Dreamweaver, Modify > Frameset > Edit no frames content
Then stop using frames and create flat pages, frames suck and should be
avoided.

| Thanks for your tip. The only problem is that "edit no ..." is not highlighted when I open the page, so it won't let me select it. Is there something I need to do before I click on Modify?

Nice portrait of the dog!

With appropriate javascripting, page titles can be made to pass through
from a framed page to the frame which surrounds it. <meta> information
cannot.
First, read this:
http://apptools.com/rants/framesevil.php
I'm guessing that you're using a frame so that you can continue to host
your pages on http://psibbel.home.mchsi.com/ ? That is, IMHO, false
economy. You can get hosting for under US$10/month, and it looks a lot
more professional, plus you avoid all the problems frames bring with
them.
As to the <meta keyword...> tag, don't spend a whole lot of time on it.
Search engines generally ignore it. Instead, make sure that your
keywords are included in text (not images) on your page. Make your page
titles pertinent to the page, and spend some time on the 'description'
meta tag - it shows in search engine listings of your page.
| |
|
| Open your frameset and try again.
