Author Renaming files

Hi

I have recently up-graded to DW8 from DW MX 2004.

In DW MX 2004 I use to be able to rename a file while in Dreamweaver and it
would automatically update the links in the pages the file was linked to.

BUT DW8 doesn't appear to do this. I have been through the Preferences and
cannot find anything there nor can I find anything in DW Help apart from how to
rename a file which I knew anyway. There is nothing on automatic update.

I hope someone can help me with this as I work in the e-Learning area and
quite frequently am required to change the name of files but don't want to have
to go into every page that the file is linked to and update the link
manually...grrrr!
:confused;
Thanks in advance
Michele

DW8 manages the links for me. Can you give me an example of where it fails
to do so for you?

Hi Murray and thanks for your prompt reply.

Explanation:
I have a webpage (for this eg. I'll call it pg1) that is linked to another
webpage (for this eg. I'll call it pg2). I needed to change the name of the
pg2, so in 'Files' I renamed pg2 but when I looked at the link on pg1 the file
name had not changed, I clicked the DW refresh button but still no change, I
closed and re-booted Dreamweaver but the link from pg1 to pg2 still had the
old file name. I had to re-link the file manually. The old version of
Dreamweaver just updated automatically and immediately.

What concerns me the most is, sometimes I have several pages that link to one
page and if for some reason I needed to change the file name of that page I
would then have to go to every page that is linking to it and re-link them
manually.

I hope this makes sense and hope you can help me.
Thanks
Michele

I dunno. I go into a site, create a new page (DW8), and save it as
pg1.html. Then I save it as pg2.html. I put a link on pg2.html to
pg1.html, and save it again. Now, in files, I rename pg1.html to pg0.html,
and am prompted to update the links. When I say YES, the link is updated.
Is this not what you are seeing?

Thanks again for the communication.
I think I have now resolved the problem, I think it had something to do with
the fact that I had the file open where it was linked from but seems to be
working now.

Cheers
Michele
