Author CSS - I think I'm ready to learn
Deon

Hi there,

I have noticed that the questions regarding CSS are increasing and have
decided it's time to jump in and dig.

Which book/tutorial can you recommend for me to start learning CSS?
I want something that will tell me what does

margin: 0 auto;
left-margin: 20px;
position: absolute;

mean, but also takes me further than this. In other words, the whole
book/tutorial must not be all basic.

Thanx for your time & advice.

I don't think you'll go wrong by going through the CSS tutorials by Adrian

mako4css is a straight tutorial site. Project Seven have commercial
products, free extensions and a number of tutorials, including a number
on CSS topics. Eric Meyer is one of the gurus of using CSS in web
development. You'll find his thoughts, plus a number of experiments he's
done. Also, look for his books and the websites related to them; I'd bet
he has those linked from his site.

And with a grain of salt:

They have some really nice stuff, but a certain amount of it strikes me
as "Why are we doing this? Because we can!" stuff.

Not sure you really need any books but that's an individual choice. You
can get up-to-speed by using all the free sources there are on the web.
It's all there, just a mouse click away.

I'd personally recommend this site for tutorials on floating stuctures.
Tutorial No 8/9 should be of interest.

Here for other css related stuff

Russ, the guy who owns the site, keeps it simple and clean, which is
what I persoanally prefer. No clutter, junk or too much redundant
eye-candy. The balance of design and information is spot-on in my opinion.
