Author Contribute *REQUIRED* to use Check In/Out in DW8?

We recently upgraded to DW8 and have been getting the annoying errors saying a
file is missing for Contribute compatibility when working on existing sites
that work just fine in MX2004. We were also no longer able to rollback. I got
digging around and installed Contribute and enabled the rollback stuff and
check in stuff, and now everything works.

Is the only way to make what used to work fine in previous versions of DW work
under 8 to install Contribute???

If so, this REALLY PISSES ME OFF!!! I have no use for Contribute what so ever
and have never needed it before. I design and build in DW exclusively. Removing
the functionality from DW to admin its own stuff and requiring some cheap
little app to make DW do what it has always done before Contribute even existed
seems really short sighted!

This is driving us insane and I have yet to find anything in the documentation
that points this out as being a change. I have spoke with several other
designers and they all have the same issue, and 2 went back to 2004. None want
to use Contribute when I mentioned my fix.

Sorry for the Rant nature of this, but this really screws with me when I have
nearly 100 sites that are affected by this!

You do not need Contribute to use Check In/Out in DW8, as they are defined
on different parts of the Site defintion. However the rollback feature is a
Contribute and not Dreamweaver feature so if you are wanting to use it then
CT is needed.

You do not need Contribute to use Check In/Out in DW8, as they are defined
on different parts of the Site defintion. However the rollback feature is a
Contribute and not Dreamweaver feature so if you are wanting to use it then
CT is needed.

We also have noticed this same problem, and I can't say I'm crazy about it
either. To say that rollbacks are not a Dreamweaver feature is to ignore the
fact that DWMX created rollbacks with no problem, and was able to list and
revert to previous Dreamweaver OR Contribute edits.

This functionality even appears to be expanded in DW8, but doesn't seem to
work properly. Contribute users can still edit and create/revert to rollbacks,
but Dreamweaver 8 has stopped making those rollbacks. Nothing has changed
except for the DW version, and functionality is now missing/broken.

We have about 30 users editing with Contribute, and a studio that uses
Dreamweaver 8, now with less version control than before we upgraded from
MX2004.

This is not a check in/out issue, but I don't like seeing LESS features in a
paid upgrade.
