Quicktime will not preview/play in DW8

i bought studio 8 and installed it. all works fine except when i try to
preview or play a quicktime movie in the doc i've created. it tells me the
plug in failed to initialize and that i should contact the vendor or play the
movie in a browser window (which works). I don't get it. nothing has changed
since i was using MX 6.1. could play movies fine. i am up to date on all my
versions of QT and my laptop which still has MX on it will play the movies fine
in the html docs. any help would be apprciated. I've reinstalled the program
twice and updated it to 8.01.
