Author Big problem with Dreamweaver 8

I have recently changed to DM 8 from DM 2004mx. I created my website using the
latter.
Take as an example : http://www.faith.org.uk/Ideas/ANewSynthesis.htm (although
all the pages seem to have the same problem). This was created in DM2004mx with
no problems. If, however, I load it into DM 8 and, in design view, try to edit
the main area of the page I get a "no entry" sign (though I can edit the left
hand panel). If I then switch to code view, click/mark text in the blocked
area, return to design view and then click on the text (sometimes it takes
several clicks), I can edit it. However, if I then close the page and reopen
it, I am back to the "no entry" problem.
Is it a problem with the template upon which all the pages are based, or my
coding in each page? If so, why were there no problems with 2004mx?
My work is being held up seriously by this. Would appreciate your help.

Hi Brian,

I think the problem may be the overflow property support added to DW8.
Try creating a style sheet with this style in it:

* { overflow: visible !important; }

Then apply that as a Design Time Style Sheet. This will cause Design
View to ignore all overflow properties on the page to revert to DW MX
2004 behavior.

Hope this helps,
Randy

Hi Randy,
Thanks. Have checked various help files and sites re design time style sheets
but they do not explain exactly how to do it;.
Do I create an external style sheet with the one style in it:

.overflowchange { overflow: visible !important; }

or should it just contain:

* { overflow: visible !important; }
(have never seen the star symbol before)

If I am right in this how is overflowchange applied to all the pages at
design time? I do have some pages with a large amount of text in them which
require scrolling, though this restriction on editing applies to all pages.
However, when you refer to overflow possibly you are not referring to this.
Some of the layers on my site have background images - if these are larger
than the layer, could this sort of thing cause overflow?
Anyway, pse clarify it for me - would be most grateful.
Brian

Hi Randy,
Now realise * is a universal selector.
Your were correct! This does cure the problem, but I have to add the design
time sheet to EVERY page if I want to edit it.
Is there any way of either applying the design time sheet to all pages on the
site, OR is there any way of correcting the overflow so I do not need the
design time sheet?
Brian
