Author accessing remote files

For some reason I'm not able to access my hosted files. I keep getting an
error saying:

"An FTP error occurred - cannot get remote folder information. Access Denied.
The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem."

What is wrong? One question I have - in setting everything up (on Site
Definition for FTP access) it asks: "What is the hostname or FTP address of
your web server?" and i've got "ftp.mydomain.com" - should I cut out the "ftp."
at the beginning of this? Otherwise I've no idea what the trouble is...

Make your hostname - www.mydomain.com and see what happens.

Okay, I tried this with "www." as you suggested - now I get a new but similar
message:

"An FTP error occurred - cannot open remote folder public_html /.
Access Denied. The file may not exist, or there could
be a permission problem."

public_html is of course my remote root folder... more suggestions..?

Either that's incorrect, or you do not have the proper permissions set.
Please remove that from the Host directory field and try connecting again.
If you can connect, tell me what folder names you see in the Remote file
list....

You said that I might be pointing to the wrong root folder, which I knew was
wrong, but I noticed a space after the "html" in the name ("public_html /")
like that, so I made it "public_html/" and it seems to work.

Thanks Murray - you pointed me in the right direction

Good going. I'm glad I could help.
