Author preloader in IE and Netscape

I'm new to Flash. I've got a 25Mb movie which will play in Netscape/Firefox
and IE as well as the older versions of Netscape. However, due to the size of
the file, I've added a preloader to the code. In testing the file, it all
works as I expect it to, but the preloader doesn't work with IE (the movie will
still play after it loads) in practice. The preloader works fine with Firefox
and an older version (7.2) of Netscape.

I've read the article on Flash Satay, and it seems that this would defeat the
purpose of the preloader anyway. Regardless, I am a little unclear as to the
proper syntax on the final solution (specifically: data="c.swf?path=movie.swf"
and _root.loadMovie(_root.path,0); -- I'm unsure as to whether I should use a
relative or absolute root reference). Further, I'm not sure I should be using
this anyway as the whole point of the preloader is to show the progress of the
file being loaded.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

how many HOURS will that preloader flash loop will run for users on dialup?
I'm on cable, I'd kill the page.

Thanks for your input, but that's the point of the preloader. These pages are
a "bonus" to those with hight speed access and clearly marked as such. I'm
looking for a way to make the preloader work with IE, not a way to cut content.

You should be able to get a better answer in the Flash forum.

Thanks, I'll try there as well. I posted here first as it appeared to me an HTML coding/implementation issue as opposed to a Flash issue.

Understood. It sounds more like something a Flash developer could help
with.

Why do you think you need a preloader at all?

I am using a preloader due to the size of the flash file. The whole site isn't
Flash just this one particular movie. Plus, I though it would add a cool touch
to the downloading process. I've checked the Flash forum to no avail. I think
this must be an issue with IE, but I can't seem to get it resolved. It's
important to have this work with both IE and Netscape/Firefox.

Thanks,

Michael

put a Preload Loop animation into the first couple frames of the flash file
itself, instead of doing some html/javascript thing. There are tutorials
that will also allow the animation to display a progress bar so the user
sees visual feedback that something is happening.

I'm no Flash guru. In fact I make Flash movies by animating in 3DSMax,
outputting targa's, compositing in After Effects and exporting as Flash ha ha.
But when I've needed a preloader I've laways used Vertical Moons "Lock n Load":
There's a free trial:

It just bolts a pre-loader on the front. Maybe it'll work for this project.
Besides what kind of Flash movie is that big? Are you talking about Flash
VIDEO? If a movie is that big I would have thought you've made it wrong (like
not useing Library items or something) but like I said. I'm not a Flash expert.
(haha for the record I'm a Photoshop expert if anyone ever needs any
advice...and the Adobe forums really suck)...oh and not bad at Max either ;)
