Has anyone here attempted to run Dreamwaver 8 on Windows x64 Edition? I?m sure
there is no official support for x64 from Macromedia but, I?m curious. DW8
won?t even load on my system. Dreamweaver MX 2004 works fine. Oddly enough when
I attempt to load DW8 (and it subsequently fails) it prevents DWMX04 from
running for the remainder of the session.

I have it working OK on Win XP Pro x86, I'll try it in the morning on my XP
Pro x64 machine which is a dual processor dual layer 2.6Ghz Operton with 8GB
Ram. It should fly. I have Studio MX and MX2004 working with no problems.

I have installed DW8 onto my Win XP Pro x64 Dual Opetron processor
motherboard without any errors. But it will not open. It does affect
DWMX2004 from loading as well. After a reboot DWMX2004 works OK.
I also noticed Fireworks 8 has the same problem.

I can only assume that Macromedia or maybe Adobe have plans to sell a 3rd
version called DW8 x64. Another profit margin for them???

I've notuced the comments on DW8 as well but that always happens with each
release of DW so I'll just be my own judge based on my own systems.

We have several computers, 3 x P4 3.0Ghz 32 bit machines, G4-G5 Macs all
from 1Gb to 2 Gb of Ram and 256Mb Graphic cards and all connected to a
Win2000 SBS Server.

I have been testing 64 bit by purchasing a Dual Pro dual layer (equiv to 4
processors) Opetron desktop and a 64 bit notebook with a AMD Turion 64
processor. The desktop has dual Sata drives and now has 8Gb Ram and I must
say it is very very quick. P/Shop opens in 6 secs. Processes a filter change
of a 1.5Gb file in approx 26 secs compared to 19 minutes on our P4's. Most
software only runs in 32 bit mode so when they are compiled into 64 bit I
expect even faster times. It installed without a problem all drivers on the
OEM XP x64 disk. I used a Nvidia board as that appeared after searching
newsgroups to have the least problems and I have proved that without a
doubt.

Hope that helps anyone who is interested or maybe doubts the ability of
PC's.

Murray,

I haven?t even gotten DW8 to install yet. I myself have experienced zero bugs.
However, several of my colleagues who have successfully installed the trial on
either a MAC or a PC have experienced one or more of the following:

Unexplained crashing/Kernel panics
Lack of x64 support
Trouble with the trial installation
Trouble with ODBC drivers
Pages changes not reflected on upload
Incorrect page size reporting
Preview and memory issues etc.,

Add this to some of the other stuff I?ve skimmed in the adjacent forums and
you?ll pardon me if I take a ?wait and see? approach. Thanks for checking in on
our little x64 chat Murray. Looking forward to the first major DW8 update,
BrotherEye.

Peter,

You make a good point in regards to self evaluation. I'll do that on an
out-of-the-wat testing system once I get the trial installer working on my
32bit system. In general, I?ve found it prudent to wait for a major update
before deploying any new software.

---

In regards to x64, my set up is also deadly fast under x64. I'm closing in on
the end of my trail and I was wondering whether I should get the OEM x64 or
just go back to the old 32bit OS and wait for better driver support. Thanks
again for your input.

For what it's worth:

> Unexplained crashing/Kernel panics

I have never seen one of these that hasn't been traced to local system
problems.

> Lack of x64 support

<shrug> I have no comment here

> Trouble with the trial installation

Again, I haven't seen one yet that hasn't been traced back to the local
system. That is for those that have been traced....

> Trouble with ODBC drivers

I have not personally experienced them - and I don't recall ever seeing one
posted here.

> Pages changes not reflected on upload

I dunno. I have been using DW8 for a while, and have not been able to
reproduce this. However, as mentioned in another thread, this may be
related to workflow and site setup as much as anything.

> Incorrect page size reporting

I guess this is trivial. The reporting was never great anyhow. Now it's
completely wrong.

> Preview and memory issues etc.,

Preview issues? Haven't seen any posted that were due to DW. Memory
issues? Haven't seen any that were definitively tracked to DW.

> Looking forward to the first major DW8 update,

If I had to guess, I'd say it'll be a while - particularly if the Adobe
merger is approved.
