Author Posting a new site over an old one

:confused;
Ok, I am updating a site with DW 8 that was originally made with FrontPage? I
cut and pasted all of the FP pix and text into the DW program and made my own
new buttons and such. Yes, the host is set up for FTP extentions.:D Ok I
connect to the site and hit "put" it uploads the files to the site, but the
site remains the same... Is there a way I can refresh the site or erase all of
the old files on it so it uses the new ones? Thanks!

Look at the timestamps of the files on the remote site. Have they changed?
If so, then it's a browser cache issue. Dump your cache and try again.

ok what it did was put the info from both of the sites there. So there is
virtually 2 sites there, but it is still reading the old one as the default and
not the new one. Do I need to go into the remote folder and delete all of the
old FP files? Or is there a site refresher that will wipe the whole thing
clean and I can re-put the new stuff on there? Thanks.

ok I deleted the old site files except for the site under construction htm.
when I set my homepage aspx as the home page and remove the under construction
htm, I get a forbidden error when I try to view the site. It works fine in
test mode.

thanks,

Dennis

In the root directory there is a file called .htaccess. Is that the problem?

the remote folder has a file named .htaccess, and you are trying to use
files with a file extension of .aspx ??

if there is a file named .htaccess 99% of the time means it's a
linux/Apache host.

a filename extension of .aspx is something used with ASP or .NET

so that's likely the problem.

My short guess, you are uploading asp pages to an linux host.

So if I change all the pages and links to html, then I should be good right?

Thanks,
Dennis

The test works fine.

it depends----

do the .aspx pages contain .NET code? or ASP ?

in other words- why did you pick that file extension.

The language is VB, so is that visual basic?
Alan

yes, that's visual basic ASP.

talk to the hosting. find out what they support, AND what the default
filename has to be.

Dreamweaver 8 itself was very easy to use. I am a first time webpage maker,
but I have had some VB and similar programming classes. DW was basically drag
and drop. It does do funky things with button placement that DW MX didn't,
it'll get fixed soon enough.

This is a code issue for sure. DMX showed it because it was missing
something. I would trust DW8's display over DMX all day. Can you show me
the code?
