I live in Utah and am a new single mom homeschooling three kids. It's important
that I stay home. I have 3 contracts pending to build websites. I took classes
in VB, SQL Server 7.0, HTML, DHTML, Javascript and ASP but never had a chance
to do anything with it over the last five years. . I've taught myself DW and FW
but have a ways to go. Am learning PHP and mysql now, too. Here is the
question: I was told that I should charge $1800 for a basic website, $100/mo
for upkeep and $50/hour for changes. Is this high or about right? Just need
some opinions, please. Thanks.

It really depends on the website.

I think we are not supposed to talk about rates here for some reason, by
the way.

I think you need to figure out an hourly rate that works for you and
then estimate time for sites.

Single mom, working, 3 kids + homeschooling. Hooboy. Good luck!

There's no way to answer that. It's a gigantic 'it depends'. The bottom line
is that you need to charge what you need to charge to get customers and
maintain a decent living.

$50/hour might be high in some areas. Here, it's really low. But, again, it
all depends...
