Author dreamweaver / coldfusion : FTP access possible?

Hi,

I've just finished the Dreamweaver Getting Started tutorial.

But for the little Coldfusion tutorial at the end, I'm only able to make it
work with the Local/network connection...
(using http://localhost...)

But I use a remote server (not on my computer), so I need FTP!

How can I make my Coldfusion work with my remote FTP server?

And how my remote FTP server (pages.videotron.com) can access my ColdFusion at
home?

Is it possible that any "videotron" page cannot read any .cfm urls ?!?

Here's how I configure the settings :

in "remote info" :

access : FTP
FTP host : pages.videotron.com (my home page is :
http://pages.videotron.com/gagoster)
host directory : (NOTHING)

in "testing server :

server model : ColdFusion
access : FTP
ftp host : pages.videotron.com
host directory : (NOTHING)
...
URL PREFIX : http://pages.videotron.com/gagoster
...

Now I' ve just called Videotron, and the guy told me that for using
ColdFusion, I need a static IP address.
My IP is dynamic, so it's impossible to configure Coldfusion / FTP
appropriately.
Is he right?? If so... too bad, I'll only stick with Dreamweaver

Thank you for any help,

Patrick

Does that server support CF?

Sorry, I don't understand this question.

Yes, if the host doesn't offer CF support.

Huh?

> Is he right??

I don't think so.

What is it you are doing with CF?

The videotron guy told me that videotron support CF... But maybe in reality
it doesn't...

Can I have a complete Local/network site using the CF built-in server ?
Or is this server only good for Localhost working? I'm confused.
If I use this server, what is my website address? (I'm lost)

So, if my website is http://pages.videotron.com/gagoster ,

can you give me your advice for the FTP settings (remote info + testing
servers and URL prefix)??

I don't find any solutions :(

Someone here is working with ColdFusion and using FTP access OR the CF
built-in server??

Thanks,
Patrick

In short -

You install CF Developer edition onto your home PC. You create a database,
in Access, My SQL, or SQL (there are many others), link it up in the
Coldfusion Administrator - setting a DSN. Specify this setting in
Dreamweaver when you define your Dynamic site. Go ahead and develop your
site, using *.cfm pages - then upload everything to your site who needs to
have a licenced version of CF installed on their servers. Upload the
database you have been working with locally, to whereever it is they store
them, setting the DSN in the process - and voila - you should have a working
CF built site up and running.
Basically the same method as static sites - develop locally, then upload.
(I think a worthwhile investment for you would be some books - specifically
WACK - by Ben Forta. Google it, or Amazon).

Hi,
I understand the last reply...

But it doesn't help me for the FTP / Local settings...

my host is "pages.videotron.com", and my homepage is
http://pages.videotron.com/gagoster

this is my CF page : http://pages.videotron.com/gagoster/comments-view.cfm

IT'S ONLY TEXT :( CF doesn't work!!! is it because that my host doesn't
support CF ??

For "remote info" and "testing server", do I need to select FTP access for
both ??

Does the CF built-in server means that I have to select Local/network access ??

I suppose that's why. The server is not recognizing the cfm extension.

Your testing server would be Local/Network.
