If you want to use CSS to create your page, don't think that you have done
that when you use layers. This is likely to cause you much more trouble
than any benefit it might provide. This is particularly true if you are
putting text into those layers.

To apply your style to the layer, click in the layer in design view, then
right click on the right-most <div> on the property inspector and choose
"Set Class > yourclass".
