Dreamweaver - ftp error - permission problem?

hi.

Ive been noticing this problem fairly often of late. Sometimes when deleting
old pages form a site using the dreamweaver ftp, i receive an error pop-up
"an ftp error occurred - cannot delete remote file xxxxxx.file. access
denied. the file may not exist , or there could be a permission problem."

It seems to be random in its choice of files, althought there are often
javascript files included, but sometimes it can just be a folder.

its getting quite annoying - as a lot of my sites now have useless, empty
folders just sitting there for no reason.

can anyone suggest a solution??
