| I just got my webpage uploaded to my server after some difficulty. The webpage
is online, but there are some problems with the URL. First of all, when i type
in the domain name it doesnt bring up my site. It says "you are not authorized
to view this page". The domain name is hunttigerridge.com. When i type that in
my browser i would like to be taken to my homepage. But when i type in the URL
hunttigerridge.com/pages/index.htm, i am brought to my site (this is the name
of my homepage).
also,
I have a folder in my root folder for all my pages. The folder is named
"pages." Also, the main folder on the server is named "pages". So when i view a
page from my site online it looks like
hunttigerridge.com/pages/pages/pagename.htm. I would like to get rid of these
stupid "pages" folders so the URL doesnt look so bad. I tried moving some of
the pages out of the smaller "pages" folder so they are just in the larger
"pages" folder, thinking it wouldnt look as bad
(hunttigerridge.com/pages/pagename.htm). But now i messed it all up because
there are tons of broken links and pics.
I tried renaming the main folder on the server but it wont let me. When i
first uploaded the site i just "put" the entire site. Was this a bad idea?
Should i delete everything off the server and re-upload it?
Example:
here is a link to a page in the pages>pages folder
http://www.hunttigerridge.com/pages.../Off-Season.htm
here is a link to a page i took out of the second pages folder and left in the
first pages folder http://www.hunttigerridge.com/pages/aging.htm
-notice the banner is missing, the horizontal nav bar is all messed up, the
vertical nav bar is all messed up, and none of the links work.
here is a screenshot of my remote/local files

please help, this is my first webapage of this size and i have less than a
week to wrap it up cuz of school starting.
thank you in advance

Just get rid of the folder and put your files in the root directory. This
will fix your other problem as well.

| I dont want to sound dumb, but im going to. What is my root directory. Is it
the main folder on the server or is it sometrhing else.
I tried taking the files out of the folder but when i do this all the links
are broken. If i want to get rid of the "pages" folder will i have relocate all
the files and then update all of my links on the site?
Also, how do i change the name of the main folder on my server? Or better yet,
not even have a folder on my server. I would like the URL to be like this
www.hunttigerridge.com/pagename.htm ...not
www.hunttigerridge.com/pages/pagename.htm How do i do this?

On the server, it's whatever directory your Web host told you to put your
web files into.
On your own computer, it's whatever folder you set up as the root directory
when you defined your site.
> Is it
> the main folder on the server or is it sometrhing else.
It's the main folder for your web files. Different web hosts do things
differently, but typically you will log into your site via FTP and be dumped
into your root USER folder, which will often contain a folder called 'WWW'
or 'HTML' or something of that nature, which is your web files root folder
(the directory your domain name is pointing to).

Move files out of the folder using DW's site window. It will then ask you if
you want to fix the links. Click on 'yes'.
> If i want to get rid of the "pages" folder will i have relocate all

Yes, but, like I said, DW can do most of this for you.

Like I said, get rid of the PAGES folder.

| i think im getting it now. Thanks for your help. I really appriciate it.
I have a question. I deleted everything off my server because i messed it up
so bad. Now im going to upload it again. If i click on my local root folder and
click "put" it will put my entire site onto the server. When i put the site on
the server this way will everyhthing be functionalbe? Is this the best way to
do it? Or should i go through and put everything into the servers root
individualy?
Here is a new screenshot of my files. Will it work if i put the entire site?
