Author DW problem after using DWMX trial

:disgust; I downloaded the trial version of DWMX, tried to look at my existing
website then decided not to use MX right now. Now my original DW site files
won't connect to the out-of-state server. What are the steps (as in
kindergarden) to fix this problem so I can update my original site in DW.
People are waiting for updated info . . I am disgusted with this delimna and
don't know how to fix it. Please, Guru's, Help . .

Thank you!
Nancy

It couldn't make any difference. Each version of DW is a stand alone
installation.

What are the different versions of Dreamweaver you have used/tried on this
current site?

and- can you clarify?
In the older version of Dw, does it try to connect and not? Or does it close
with an error dialog? At what point does it crash? Or... ??

Trying a newer version does nothing to change the ftp settings of a previous
install.

One possible i know of- If you were using Dw4 or earlier, or UD4 or
earlier, the design note .mno files are different, and need to be cleared
out of the local site folder and remote site folder or the older versions
will crash when opening the site.

Hi - Yes, Alan, I am using DW4 and it does try to connect. When I click on
"connect" it connects and disconnects immediately and then I get a message that
it's "verifying connection" but still never connects. Any ideas what's going on
.. . I'm using dsl and everything else here works . .

Now the DWMX has expired and I can't get into it to delete anything. What do
you suggest?
Thanks, muunlitr

follow the technote-
You'll need to use a different FTP program to connect to the remote and
check for .mno files, and delete them.

Alan - I looked at the link you sent me. That's for Contribute. I'm not using
Contribute (to my knowledge). All I want to do is be able to get back to where
I can ftp my DW files to the out of state server. The problem started when I
tried the DWMX then decided not to use it. Help . . .

Thank you . . muunlitr

Alan - I followed the link Disabling Design Notes and did the steps recommended. I also did the Disabling dependents in DW. I still cannot connect to the Server. What next?

Third- (but you can try this first, it will probably take care of problem)
do as the technote says, and go into Dreamweaver 4, this Site Definition,
Design Notes pane. Disable "sharing" of design notes.

First- I'd suggest FIRST doing a Find or Search within this site's Local
Site Folder, and deleting any .mno files that have file dates from since you
tried Dreamweaver MX or Dreamweaver MX 2004.

Second- Connect to the remote site with some other ftp client.
Find and delete any recent .mno design notes.

those two steps will remove the recent new version .mno design notes that
can cause a crash when you now try to connect to the remote site with
earlier product version (dw4 in this case)

Did you change anything else, like install or setup a Firewall?
If yes- go into the site definition, remote info, and put check in the "Use
Passive" box.

and- use some other ftp client to verify the ftp info is correct.
Then, re-enter the ftp info into dw4 to make sure.

I have sent a note to the Host to disable the .mno files. Hopefully she will fix things on her Server.

or- just get some ftp client, and delete them.
there are plenty of free/shareware ftp clients. And it's a useful thing to
have set up with the site username/passwords for quick access.
