Author Images Missing When Uploaded to Web

Hey All,

I've got a site (www.octopus-garden.org) and everything works well. I want to
copy that site to another (phillip.octopus-garden.org) and use it as a template
to keep the formatting, etc. The problem is I've copied the site from www/ to
www/phillip and I can see the images just how they should be, but when I upload
it, it doesn't show the images. I can right-click (in Firefox) and click "View
Image" and it shows the image, but when I refresh, it goes away.

I've got the images in the html pointing to a relative subfolder (<IMG
SRC="/images/collage.jpg" WIDTH=780 HEIGHT=149 align="middle"> ) which works
fine on the original site. There shouldn't be anything I have to change since
it points to a folder relative to the working folder, right?

I'm stuck. Please help. SOS...

Thanks Everyone,
Phillip

there's some kind of weird redirect or symbolic link thing going on.

I went to the /images/ folder in that subdomain:
http://phillip.octopus-garden.org/images/
the files are listed.

clicking on any filename in that directory listing gives this url:
http://phillip.octopus-garden.org/h...w.octopus-garde
n.org

typing the full url of an image into the browser does show the image:
http://phillip.octopus-garden.org/images/foam.gif

So-
one, maybe try just renaming the folder from images to anythingelseunique

two, check the hosting Control Panel to see if you've set up some redirect
or alias or maybe even "hot link prevention" that could be the real reason
for the problem.

or- maybe things got messed up when you created this subdomain, and you'll
have to delete it then create it again? Try making another subdomain just
for the heck of it, and make an images folder, and put a couple images in
it. Does the same problem happen there also??

Okay Alan, thanks - the problem was with the Hotlink protection was enabled, as
soon as i disabled it, I saw my images. I changed a few of the pictures and
they show up, so it's not pulling the images from the octopus-garden images
folder, so i guess i'm good now... i don't care if people steal pictures off my
site.

Thanks again, Alan,

the hot link prevention thing that's included with CPanel sites doesn't work
well in practice- there will be no images showing on the first page people
view.

and- some firewalls and modern browsers block the sending of http referrer
info back to the server, so those people will not see any images no matter
what.
