Get rid of Norton. It causes more problems than it solves it seems.

Have you tried connecting to a different server? It sounds like the server
is sending some FTP response commands that Norton doesn't like.
But Norton is an ornery old XXX and doesn't care for much at all anyways.
So, anyways, it sounds like your two options are to a) get rid of Norton or
b) get rid of the particular server you are FTPing into. Maybe find a server
that allows SFTP log-in.
