| Greetings,
I am attending a community college for graphic and web design. I am using
Dreamweaver to put my projects on the web for my family, friends, and anyone
else to see. I am also using this project to learn Dreamweaver!
THanks to you folks I can now insert a flash movie and HAVE IT WORK! I can
also create a slide show with timeline. Because it is appropriate and to show I
can do it, the title for the animation page will - well - be animated! It is a
simple one, just the letters showing up in order.
I have read some of the forum, and know that most of you do not like Flash or
timelines. I understand and basically agree. As I want to earn my way with
graphic and web design, though, I need to know how to do these. And the more I
know, the easier it will be to help the client understand why not to use them!
My question to the team, and everyone else. Which method might give the better
experience to the user?
Thanks.

| I would have to disagree with one of your statements there. I do not believe
most people do not like Flash, I just believe that people do not like the
misuse of it (ie: making file sizes too big even for broadband connections).
Personally for slideshows the only two ways I would ever do it is with Flash
or Powerpoint. Previously making one in Flash using the "timeline" was always
horrid and it was the main reason I still hate using Flash today. Personally I
think it needs to be fixed and that they need to use the timeline from Adobe's
Livemotion since it was more intuitive, but I'll save that argument for another
day. Anyways, point being without the somewhat improved functionality built
into Flash MX 2004 Pro I would not even attempt it.
As far as Powerpoint is concerned, Windows users using IE will always get full
functionality out of the ppt files but other users will only be able to see
slides, not effects. So in that case exporting the Powerpoint presenation to a
html file is always the best option.
Personally from experience Flash will give the most interactivity to everyone
since users with any browser should be able to see your presentation. Whereas
with Powerpoint only Windows users with the latest version of IE 6 will be able
to see the interactive elements while everyone else will just see slides, which
can also be very effective.

| Thank you. That would answer the question of flash vs. powerpoint. The
timelines I am referring to is the timelines in Dreamweaver itself. Flash and
Dreamweaver are the choices I have at the moment.
I learned PowerPoint about ten years ago, and haven't been able to work with
it since! I have no idea on how to prepare a presentation for the web!
I have got lots and lots to learn!
