| :confused;
I am not the regular webmaster where I work. I am filling in until someone is
hired. Therefore, I am just trying to figure things out as I go (read: no
formal training). We use Dreamweaver 4. I realize it is outdated, but I work
for a nonprofit and do not expect it to buy an upgrade anytime soon.
My supervisor wants me to include a five-minute DVD clip on our Web site, and
I have no idea how to do it. Any suggestions?

That may be asking a lot.
Thankfully, your version of Dreamweaver doesn't much matter. What
matters is, is HTML capable of displaying video, and the answer is yes. The
most popular choices include QuickTime, Windows Media, Real, and Flash.
Personally, I like Flash, though the video quality isn't quite as nice as
some of the others.
You'll need to "rip" the relevant video content from your DVD and almost
certainly run it through some sort of video editor, such as Adobe Premiere,
to reduce its physical dimensions (320x240 is a reasonable size). Then it
all depends on what format you want to use. Premiere exports to quite a few
web formats in addition to formats intended for TV.
Once you have the format you need -- compressed to make it as small as
possible, while still looking decent -- it's a matter of using object/embed
tags to "embed" the video into your page.
