Template Broken Links Problem

| I have updated a template, adding hot spot area links over an uneditable area.
When I try to update the pages that are using that particular template, the
new hot spot links are there and work, but all of the image rollovers that are
behind the hot spots are grayed out and show broken links. Or at least I think
that's what that icon represents - a gray square looking likes it's ripped
apart diagonally.
I'm not sure where to start troubleshooting - any help would be greatly
appreciated!
