Clean up Word limitations
|

| I have a Word formated HTM file that I wanted to clean up all of the junk
without manually going through all of it. The problem is the file is rather
large, 1.1 MB and I run out of memory and end up with Dreamweaver crashing each
time I try to clean up the junk code. Mind you my machine isn't what you would
call entry level, but filled with 2 GB of ram and a lot of other go-fast parts.
I have seen this problem with each copy of Dreamweaver from UltraDev - DW 2004.
Just how big of a word formated file can Dreamweaver handle?
Why does it take up so much resources [1.7 GB of ram before it crashed] for a
file that is only 1.1 MB in size?

| Why is the file 1.1MB?
I believe that the limit for DW is about 200K.
How large is the doc file itself? Do you have it? Have you tried opening
it directly in DW (FILE | Import > Word Document)?

Because it contains 100+ pages. I have had people send me word converted to htm
files because they think it would be easier for me.

800 K
Yes, I have tried to open it directly in DW and I have tried to cut - n - paste
into a blank html file in DW. Same message for both:
"The document you selected is very large and would take too long to import. We
recommend you use Copy and Paste to insert parts of the document into multiple
web pages"

|
| open it in word, save each 25 pages a document, resave as html, import into
DW.

| No need to resave as HTML. Just import the doc fragments directly into DW.

| On the PC (not Mac), you can open Word doc files directly into a new DW
page. But there is an upper size limit of 150-200K I believe.
