i am trying to get a user log on so that they will be able to login to my website. When using a database to do this, should the method be set to GET or POST or something else?

POST is a better option. That's what we use in our product called ImpAKT
which helps you build the login forms on an easy quicker way.

Check this flash demo:

The product page is here:

I have created one using the server behaviour panel within MX. I used the
wizard in which you just specify the connections and the details you require.
For example, the page to go to if the login is successful and the page to go to
if the login fails. I am having trouble preview the pages atm, it was working
fine until i added the database connections into it. I have one connection
specified with four recordsets being used off that. Would that cause a problem
or is it ok to do that? Can you have more than one database connection to a
website?

I have IIS installed on my XP Pro laptop. I am so baffled as to why this will
not open, when i try to open the asp files manually through windows explorer i
get asked if i want to save or open the files.
