Author linking with css layout
Elysianalartist

hello, I am making a 3 column css layout. And column one is navigation, and column 2 is where I want the information to pop-up. How can I make links in column one pop-up things in column 2.

You would have to use an iframe for that. However its best not to get
involed with frames if you can help it.

Why not just link to another page when you click-on a link?

If you do want to go the iframe route then you can down load a free
extention called 'floating frame' from www.projectseven.com Look under
the extentions listing and scroll down until you come to it in the list.

Look up Named anchors in the help files. I just re-read the question and I'm
a bit confused, what do you mean by pop-up?

He wants CSS divs to behave like frames. Ugh.

I think I sent you this link yesterday as one way of approaching the issue:

http://www.meyerweb.com/eric/css/edge/popups/demo2.html

He's using an absolutely positioned div underneath, but you should be able
to tailor that to be used to the side, in the next column.

Who the hell would want to do that? Well basically it really sucks. Reminds
me of one of my sites I did a few years ago when I thought css meant gas
leakage and <pubDate> meant I had scored with a lady but she wanted to know
the day to meet her :)

Well, I guess it depends what he wants to put there. If he means content for
a whole page (which is how other respondents seem to be taking the
question), well, no, that's not the solution.

I was not having a go at you, I was having a go at the technique. I
understand that examples need to be examples as to show people what you can
do, in saying this people should understand that nothing beats practical
design and code. You should never use pop-up whatever to display content,
I'm saying this as a personal thing, I'm not saying that it is illegal, I'm
saying that I think it sucks.
