Am I insane or just stupid...???
|
|
| Sookie68 2005-03-09, 6:37 pm |
| :confused;
I have a table within a table. When I change the cells (add text, form,
image, etc.) within the embedded table I want the table to STAY THE SAME WIDTH.
It appears that the width will change whether or not I change the width of the
cells... This is making me crazy ! Just when I think I've "got it" I preview
the page and it's way wider than it was / it should be / I want it to be...
I've got spacer images inserted at every opportunity.
Feel like I'm chasing my tail - wah, wah, wah...
Thank you.

| Sounds like neither - but perhaps deeply undereducated in the ways of HTML
tables would fill the bill.
Quit trying to bludgeon tables into shape, and pay attention to the CONTENTS
of the tables. After all, they will offer structure to the table from
within, and that's the most reliable way to do it.
Run through the table tutorials at the DW FAQ and come back to let me know
if that helped.

| Probably insane. ;)
Images will stretch the cell as needed, no matter what your width setting.
Same with unbroken text, that is, words with no spaces. If you're using
" " for spaces (have "allow multiple consecutive spaces" option turned
on), then that's not considered a "real" space and won't allow the text to
move to the next line. (It stands for "Non-Breaking SPace")
Form elements will also stretch a cell if they need to because they can't
break.

As I read this, no one has posted this tip, so here goes:
PVII has above-and-beyond support, so had you posted yhour problem in
their forums (yeah, I know, Mick, "fora," you probably would already
have this sorted:
