Which Doctype to use?
|
|
|
| It's time I gained a little more nuts and bolts knowledge along with just
trying to design good looking pages, right?
DreamWeaver gives the option of several Doctypes. How does one make the
decision as to which one to use?
I know this question may have a much more complicated answer than one would
think, so if someone has a link to post that may explain it, somewhat
simply, that would be great.
Thanks!

| DMX2004 by default starts you with HTML4.01 transitional. That's a good
place to stay until you have a basis for making a refinement.

| Best bet is to learn what the variations on the DTD do to each browser.
Check this out nice grid that Eric Meyer was nice enough to put
together...

| Personally, I like to use either (HTML 4.01 Strict + URI) or (XHTML 1.0
Strict + URI) since they consistently put browsers in standards mode.
Then you just have to deal with browsers that don't understand
standards... <cough> IE5 </cough>.

I don't want to be the trendy MS basher, and 6 is better than 5, but
that said... yeah IEx. :)
