Author Browser Resizing

Hi

I have written a website and optimised it for my resolution (1024x 768). The
person I have written the site for views the web in (800x600). Is there any
code (?JavaScript) that can automatically resize my webpages for different
users resolutions? Or would I need to write 2 identical sites but in different
resolutions?

Any help would be gratefully received.

Many thanks

Martin

Why? The rest of the world likely doesn't use your resolution.

Yes. But it's silly, unreliable, and rude*.

Let the end-user decide what size they want to set their web browser window
and do you best to accomodate the variety of choices out there.

FYI, 1024 is WAY to wide. Remember, screen resolution is not the same thing
as browser viewport size.

How do I go about doing this? Is it by the use of CSS? Any assistance would be
very helpful.

Any snippets of code etc would be appreciated.

Thanks

1. Decide what is the smallest browser viewport you want to support without
scrollbars - for me, this is 760px width.
2. Make your page layout not contain horizontally contiguous elements that
in aggregate are wider than 760px.

There is no magic formula, other than this simple process during the design
phase of your site.

Well there is no definitive answer to this. The two schools of thought are:

1) design your site so that it is fluid in width. Ie, set your
tables/divs/spans/etc. so they are in percentages and, therefore, will
'stretch' to fit whatever viewport size the end-user wants.

2) pick a fixed with and just assume some folks will see a lot of white
space (browser too big) or will have to scroll (browser viewport too
small.). Some folks that take this approach say 800 pixels is a good target,
some say 600, some say less, some say more.

What will happen when I view this in a bigger sized window? Will I need to add
spacers to each side of the page that can expand. Will the browser do this
automatically? Sorry to be thick but just would like to know.

I am relatively new to DW and even though it may be tedious to some other
users hopefully someone who is too afraid to ask might gain some knowledge as
well!

Thanks for your time.

Thanks Darrel - I had only received Murray's answer when I began composing,
when I finished replying it updated with your answer!!

Your answer answers my question.

I think I will use the percentage as it appears to be the most sensible option
of the 2.
Does anyone else disagree?
