Hello,

I finally came up with a color scheme for my personal website. Please tell
me what you think of it.

Here is the url http://eportal.guhsd.net/kk126992/neweport/color.htm

Thank you for all the people that helped me.

The colours look all right in combination, e.g. as a pattern for a
carpet or an abstract painting. But what really matters is what you do
with them on the site.

Striped background? Bad idea. Perhaps so bad that only I could even
conceive of it.

You must make sure that the text which you place on these colours is
readable.

Is your site intended for selling butter? If so, these are bad colours.

So, in a way, the question does not make sense. We have to see the site
to judge the colours.

I just see a bunch of blocks of brown to black colors, you may be better
off showing us a page of your site with these colors and maybe it won't look
so dull to me.

Sorry.

I like this color scheme a lot. Very classy. I would love to see how you are
using them on your site. What type of website is it? To me, these colors would
be nice for an artsy or creative site such as an art gallery.

My one concern would be what color text you'll be using, because it doesn't
seem like your lightest color would have enough contrast against the darker
ones. Just a thought.

Nice!

I'm not sure that any comments you receive at this stage will be very
helpful to you.

All you're showing us are a few colour swatches which are pleasant enough in
isolation - but they need context to be meaningful.

What matters is how you USE colours on your site - as others have already
mentioned.

Hi Kevin,
As John said, it is difficult to tell what the final outcome will be.

The colors you have chosen all work well together, but if you were to use
one of those dark colors for say a table background that will have text on
it, it may be very difficult to read.

I'd go with what you have chosen and then give us a link when you start
working on the page.

I am sure he will be using brown text colour. That's the obvious choice.

If he had anything else in mind he would have said so and asked our
opinion. That, after all, is the only critical issue, and the only
thing worth discussing.

Hi, Angela,

Well, I don't like the look of that page particularly, but that's not
what I was afraid of in the case of the original enquirer.

You have your text on a plain background, and that is fine.

But orig enqu did not say what he wants to do with these colours. If he
covers the screen with it like a widely striped carpet and then puts
text on it, it will be difficult to find a text color which is equally
readable on top of each of these bg colours.

Moreover the horizontal flow of reading will be disturbed by vertical
stripes, which, moreover, are irrelevant.

His question was quite pointless, he should have shown what he wants to
do with the colours. It's like asking: "Is brown a good colour?" and
say nothing else.

(Or to say "I liked that high pitched c by Bach" and not to say which
other tones are in the chord, and which chords come before and after.)

Come to think of it, I like the second stripe (#B25C22) best. Why not
maximise what is best. Therefore:

Make it a striped background giving each stripe the colour #B25C22

OBVIOUSLY, he is trying to reach a mature audience. Otherwise he would
not have proposed this colour scheme.

If he had anything else in mind, he would have told us so.

After all he worked for five years devising it. That is an achievement
which must be acknowledged.

The scheme is OK but what kind of audiance are you trying to reach? If you are
after a mature audiance this is good for me but for younger ones, I'm not sure.
Too straight, if I can say that...

Good luck, Simon

:-) No worries Adrian, I just thought it funny. I've been meaning to theme
my blog for a long time but have too many other things to do that I haven't
gotten to it. So for now, stripes it shall remain. (Btw, I'd never do a
"real" site like that, I was only having fun and my friends thought it would
be funny if I left it that way so I did.)
