Author Internal Error when connecting with FTP
Wigwam2k2

'Suddenly' my Dreamweaver MX2004 refuses to connect to any of my FTP sites -
giving me an error: cannot make connection to host. Encountered an internal
error. Please try operation again. I get no error numbers. I have checked
server FTP setting - all is okay. Please advise.

Oops - sorry - double post!

I have trid the 7.0.1 updater - it refused to see DWMX2004 in my installation directory. So I reinstalled DWMX2004. The updater still won't install.

Try removing/deleting the site from your Manage Sites panel, (not the folder
itself obviously), and then create a new site, with the root folder and all
relevant info set to as it was before. Do not erase the settings and then
re-enter them, remove the site completely and create a new one with same info.
Let me know if this works.

well, it works on my machine, but then i never came accross ur problem so im not sure if it works because it was working before anyway.

It used to work on mine too.

Now it doesn't and I don't know why.

Is it firewall related? I'm just plain confused...

Okay. I read your replies out of order. I deleted the site from the management
panel. Created a new one. Set it up as before. Still doesn't work. I even
created a new file as per the Macromedia suggestion - using anonymous login.
That didn't work either. As I said earlier, none of my site definitions will
connect to their ftp site. It's obviously something I've done here - and as I
haven't used DW for quite a while, I've done a LOT! BTW the update didn't work
but I notice I've already got 7.0.1 anyway...

That usually means you already have DMX2004 7.0.1 installed. Watch your
splash screen when the program starts.

What has "suddenly" changed in your environment from the last time you were
able to connect? A new Firewall? A new AntiVirus?

for the time being. REINSTALL DW, I know, maybe not what u want to hear? But if
u tried to update DW, and did thingies to it, then I suggest you reinstall it.
This should do the job. Attention: If it is not an original copy, it can also
be the case?

I don't think a reinstall of DW is called for here.

Okay. Here's what I've done most recently. Installed CorelPaintIX, ArtMaster
standard, and a trial version of TuneUp Utilities 2004. This last one may be
the culprit as it knackered my Peer2peer WAN. I reset the changes it made a
speed returned. It may have done something else though. I will uninstall it
now...

I think you are on to something.

Well I unstalled TuneUp Utilities 2004 trial version and started a virus check.
Found 10 copies of Trojan Byte.Verify :( which were fixed. DWMX2004 (7.0.1!)
works fine now! Thanks for all your help... and suggestions.:beer;

Ew. I hope you're feeling better.

In my experience any such "tune up utilities" are a big rip....

Well I'm glad I didn't pay for TuneUp 2004 - two major side effects! I'm not
sure if the trojan was at all connected - I just happened to take an extra step
and find them. At least I can make site updates now!
