:confused; I am totally new to Dreamweaver. I have created my main page
(index.htm). I have now gone to the files panel and selected it and gone to
edit and selected duplicate. I have then selected it and renamed it. I have
then deleted content from the new page to use as a template but it is
overwriting the main index.htm. PLease help someone

Why would you use Edit/Duplicate to make a new page? Use File/New (or the
new icon on the standard toolbar) to create a new page. Then use Save As to
save the new page as whatever you wish.

As for a template .. you don't make templates from pages .. you make pages
from templates. Make a page and Save As Template and then create child
pages from that template by selecting New From Template or the Template tab
in the New document dialogue.
